Shannon
Spence brings a wealth of experience to his career as
a Portland-area Realtor. Born in Astoria in the 50's,
raised in Southern California in the 60's, he
returned to Oregon in 1968 to attend Oregon State University
as a literature and speech communications major. Lit and
speech lead to biology and botany and his abiding interest
in the life sciences. He graduated from Portland State
University in 1980 with degrees in anthropology and applied
linguistics. After a year-long stint teaching in Brazil
he returned to Portland State, where he taught for four
years in the University's Department of Applied Linguistics.
In 1985 he joined a partnership in a successful jewelry
design and manufacturing business. He began selling real
estate in Portland in 1994.
Shannon's interests include international travel (he's
traveled extensively throughout South America, Europe,
Turkey, and Iran), water sports (especially swimming,
snorkeling, and scuba), natural history, and reading.
"I'm a very candid agent, " Shannon says, "and when it
comes down to it, home sellers and home buyers want two
things from me. They want information, so they can make
informed decisions, and they want advice. When you look
at the complete range of services I provide to my clients
- from the market analysis I make for a prospective seller
to the mortgage team I introduce to my buyers, through
marketing and negotiation, all the way to the close of
